With former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie bowing out of the 2024 Republican primary, only two candidates will take to the stage tonight during the fifth GOP debate. Those candidates are former South Carolina Governor and former US Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Vivek Ramaswamy remains in the race but did not qualify for the fifth debate.

Donald Trump, the leader of the pack, will continue his streak of skipping the debates, a decision he is likely to be hit for during the event. However, with polls showing strong support for the former president, it is unlikely that voters will be swayed by the argument that he should have attended.

The Iowa caucus, our first indication as to where the GOP electorate sits, will take place on Monday, 15 January. With less than a week to go, the remaining campaigns are working hard to secure as many non-Trump Republican voters as they can.

The fifth debate, hosted by CNN, will occur on Wednesday, 10 January, live from Des Moines, Iowa, at 9 pm EST. To watch, one must have access to CNN. The network’s Jake Tapper and Dana Bash will be moderating the debate.

For Spanish-speaking audiences, the event will also be carried live on CNN en Español, as well as CNN International and CNN Max.
