This week, the Republican candidates seeking the party’s nomination for the 2024 presidential election will face each other in a fourth debate, which will be held on Wednesday night, Dec. 6, at the University of Alabama, in Tuscaloosa.

What time does the debate start?

The debate will last two hours and will start at 8 p.m. ET. The event will be moderated by Megyn Kelly, former host of Fox News and NBC News; Elizabeth Vargas, anchor of NewsNation; and Eliana Johnson, editor-in-chief of The Washington Free Beacon.

The debate can be followed completely live through a television broadcast on NewsNation, and will be simulcast by Nexstar and The CW. If you prefer streaming, you can follow the fourth Republican debate for the 2024 primaries through the website NewsNation or the app from the same site, available on Apple and Google Play.

Requirements and who will participate

As expected, the requirements for the fourth Republican debate have increased. Now, candidates who wish to participate must achieve at least 6% acceptance in at least two national polls or in one national poll and two of the polls in four states that have early voting in the GOP primary. These are Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina. In addition to the surveys, candidates must have a minimum of 80,000 unique donors, which must be distributed in at least 20 states/territories of the country with a minimum of 200 donors per state.

Given the new requirements, the list of eligible candidates is expected to narrow down to possibly include Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy. At the moment, the candidates have not been confirmed, and those who wish to watch the debate must wait for the official list of the Republican National Committee (RNC), which will be announced in the coming days.

Donald Trump will not participate in the debate

Although Donald Trump meets all the requirements, the former president announced months ago that he would not be present at any of the debates due to his lead in the polls. He argues that he does not need to appear at the meetings as he is the favorite to represent the Republican Party in the next presidential elections.
