With everything that’s been going on in the world of Donald Trump in recent times, it might be easy to forget the Republican is running for re-election after losing to Joe Biden in 2020. Just to remind us all of that fact, the 77-year-old has confirmed when he will announce his vice president, with Mike Pence well out of the running this time around.

At the end of last month, Trump was, of course, found guilty of all 34 charges in his “hush money” trial, the first criminal trial of a former US president.

The verdict, though, isn’t predicted to have too much of an impact on the election.

When will Trump be sentenced? Will he go to jail?

After being deemed guilty of falsifying business records to conceal a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels, Trump will be sentenced on 11 July.

The sentencing for such an offence ranges from no jail time to four years for each of the 34 counts, although experts believe he would serve them concurrently, which would be four years in total. In any case, at this stage, there is no certainty one way or the other.

Where and when will Trump name his VP? Who are the main candidates?

Trump’s fate will, however, be known by the time he announces his VP, which he will do at the 2024 Republican National Convention, which will take place at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee from Monday 15 July to Thursday 18 July.

According to NBC sources, the main candidates for the post are said to be North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Trump’s former GOP primary challenger, and Florida senator Marco Rubio, who has previously stated he hasn’t had discussions with the former president’s campaign.

Also on the list are Ohio senator J.D. Vance and South Carolina senator Tim Scott. Trump dropped the names of all four into a Newsmax interview earlier this week, with reports claiming vetting paperwork had been prepared for each of them.
