Where and how to get solar eclipse glasses for free? Locations by state
Parts of the United States will be lucky to be in the path of the total solar eclipse taking place on April 8. Here’s how to get free solar viewing glasses.
If you’re lucky enough to be living in a state where the total solar eclipse will pass through on April 8, make sure you have the right glasses to watch it with. Viewing this celestial phenomenon can be an unforgettable experience, but it’s essential to protect your eyes.
You must use ISO-certified solar viewing glasses, which are specifically designed to filter out harmful ultraviolet, visible, and infrared light, allowing you to view the sun safely. Regular sunglasses are not suitable for eclipse viewing and will not provide adequate protection.

In Arkansas, the Arkansas State Library will distribute more than 22,000 pairs through the North Little Rock Public Library System.
For those living in Indianapolis, 10,000 pairs will be given away on the day of the eclipse itself at the LUNACY! Solar Eclipse Festival to be held at White River State Park.
Free eyewear from eye care companies
Eye care specialist MyEyeDr. has also begun distributing more than 90,000 pairs of glasses. Sky watchers can go to one of over 400 participating MyEyeDr. locations until April 8 while supplies last. According to Forbes, the outlets can be found in 13 of the 15 states that will be in the path of totality.
Another eyewear company, Warby Parker, is also giving away free ISO-certified glasses beginning April 1 until the day of the eclipse. Each family can claim up to two pairs in one of their 223 locations nationwide.
Remember, never look directly at the sun without proper eye protection, even if you’re only viewing a partial eclipse. Serious eye damage or blindness can occur if you stare at the sun without adequate protection. Enjoy the eclipse safely and protect your eyes!
