A rollover Powerball jackpot of $1.326 billion has been won by a single ticket, after an initial delay to Saturday’s draw.

After additional time was needed to complete pre-draw procedures, the Powerball draw took place at just before 2:30am ET on Sunday morning.

This weekend’s jackpot was initially estimated at $1.3 billion, but ticket sales finally pushed it up beyond that figure, Powerball’s organisers said. It is the fourth largest jackpot in the lottery’s history.

Where is the Powerball winner from?

A ticket sold in Oregon secured the top prize after matching all six Powerball numbers, which were: 22, 27, 44, 52, 60, and Powerball 9.

“On behalf of Powerball, I’d like to congratulate the winner of this $1.326 billion jackpot,” Powerball Product Group Chair Drew Svitko said. “Winning the Powerball is not just about hitting the jackpot, it’s about the power to make dreams a reality and to create positive change in the world.”

This is 2024′s second Powerball jackpot win. On New Year’s Day, a single ticket in Michigan scooped $842.4 million.

Will winner go for lump sum or ‘annuity option’?

The winner of this weekend’s Powerball jackpot will have the choice between a lump-sum payment or receiving the jackpot in 29 annual instalments.

If they opt to spread out their payments over the course of three decades - an alternative known as the ‘annuity option’ - they get the jackpot in full, in steadily rising amounts.

If the winner goes for the lump sum, they will get the smaller, ‘cash value’ figure. In this instance, this one-off payment works out at $621 million.
