Which months will Social Security recipients get double payments in 2024?
Some Social Security beneficiaries will receive a double payment in certain months of the year. We share with you who they are and when the double checks will arrive.
Payments are distributed monthly for Social Security claimants with the exact date depending on the recipient’s day of birth. Those who were born between the day and the 10th, receive the money on the second Wednesday of the month, while those whose birth date is between the 11th and the 20th receive it on the second Wednesday , and the from the 21st to the 31st on the last Wednesday of the month.
Beneficiaries who retired before May 1997, as well as those receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments do not fall into the above schedule, since they receive their check during the first day of the month, regardless of their date of birth.
When will double Social Security payment be sent this year?
As SSI members receive their benefits on the first day of the month, there are occasions where they may receive a double payment that month. This occures when their scheduled payment date falls on a non-business day, such as a federal holiday or a weekend, thus it is paid out on the previous business day.
For 2024, these are the months where SSI beneficiaries will receive a double payment:
- May: A check for the current month plus a check for June
- August: A check for the current month plus a check for September
- November: A check for the current month plus a check for December
- December: A check for the current month plus a check for January 2025
Because payment for certain months is advanced, there will be months where SSI beneficiaries will not receive a check. These months will be June, September, December and January next year.
