Which products have risen the most in price in the US in 2023?

According to the latest CPI figures, year-on-year US inflation was 3.2% in July. Here are the products that have risen the most in price in the last year.

According to the latest report shared by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased by 0.2 % in July on a seasonally adjusted basis.

Last month, year-on-year inflation was 3.2% in the United States. This represented an increase compared to June when year-on-year inflation was 3%.

The housing index was by far the largest contributor to the monthly increase in inflation, accounting for more than 90% of the increase, according to the BLS. Food also registered a significant increase.

Which products have risen the most in price in the US in 2023?

The food index increased 0.2% in July. The food at home index increased 0.3% over the month, while the food away from home index increased 0.2%.

On a year-to-year basis, the all-items index increased 3.2% in the 12 months ending in July. The index for all items except food and energy increased by 4.7% in the last 12 months. The energy index decreased by 12.5% in the last year and the food index increased by 4.9% in the last year.

The housing index increased by 7.7% in the 12 months ending in July. Meanwhile, transportation services increased by 9% in the last year. Electricity increased 3% in the 12 months ending in July.

Increase in the price of food

Four of the six major grocery store food group indices increased during the month. The meat, poultry, fish and eggs index increased 0.5% in July, while the beef index increased 2.4%

The fruit and vegetable index increased 0.4% during the month and the other food at home index increased 0.2%. The Dairy and Allied Products Index rose 0.5% in July after declining in each of the previous four months. The non-alcoholic beverages index and the cereals and bakery products index were unchanged in July.

The food at home index increased by 3.6% in the last year. The cereals and bakery goods index rose 7% in the 12 months ending in July.

The meat, poultry, fish and eggs index decreased by 0.2% during the year. The major remaining grocery store food groups saw increases ranging from 1.3% (dairy and related products) to 5.4% (both non-alcoholic beverages and other foods in the home), according to the BLS.
