Which states will hand out relief checks in May and June and for how much?

Parts of the country continue to help residents with the increased cost of living. These are the places that will deliver aid checks in May and June.

Estados Unidos

More than two years have passed since the US federal government approved the third and last stimulus check. The payment was part of the March 2021 American Rescue Plan and offered a $1,400 check for eligible taxpayers and up to $2,800 for couples filing jointly.

Since then, millions of Americans have been waiting for a fourth stimulus check, and although the measure was never approved at the federal level, various states decided to send their own checks to residents. Below we will discuss which states can expect a direct payment in May and June.

Which states will hand out relief checks in May and June and for what amounts?

According to a report from the Spanish-language outlet Solo Dinero, these are the states offering aid in the spring of 2023:

New Jersey

If you resided in New Jersey and applied for the ANCHOR program can expect their payment by mid-May. The deadline to apply was 28 February, and those who submitted their application by that date can check the status of their payment on the state’s website. Renters who have an annual income of $150,000 or less in 2019 will receive $450. Homeowners can receive $1,000 if they make between $150,000 and $250,000. Those who own their own home and make less than $1,500 will receive $1,500.

New Mexico

In mid-April, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan announced that the state would be sending out checks to eligibility households in June.

“Taxpayers who received a refund by direct deposit on their 2021 return will receive the rebate by direct deposit. All others will receive a check in the mail,” reads the press release put out by the governor’s office. The first round of checks will be made through direct deposit, and then the state will begin sending the remaining checks in the mail.

Residents can receive a refund of $500 for single filers and $1,000 for joint filers.

Massachusetts

On 15 May, the city of Chelsea in Massachusetts will send a third round of checks to 738 low-income households worth between $200 and $400 in the form of EBT cards. According to the city’s website, those eligible include residents who have an “annual gross household income is at or below 30% of the Area Median Income.”

The limit depends on the number of people who live in the home:

  • 1 person: $29,450
  • 2 people: $33,650
  • 3 people: $37,850
  • 4 people: $42,050
  • 5 people: $45,450

Colorado

If you are from Boulder, Colorado, and had an annual income of $43,900 for individuals and $62,700 for a family of four, you may be eligible for a one-time payment of between $99 and $302. The deadline to claim relief is June 30.
