In an effort to ease financial burdens brought on by inflation and budget surpluses from the previous year, several states are issuing stimulus checks and tax refunds in June. To assist, we have provided a comprehensive list of states offering these payments, including instructions on how to request them and the corresponding amounts.

California

Residents of Los Angeles County, California have the opportunity to receive monthly payments of $1,000 for a duration of two years through the Guaranteed Income Program called Breathe.

To be eligible for assistance, individuals must have been in foster care until the age of 18 or beyond and have an income that is equal to or less than the local median. For households with two members, the combined income must be below 120 percent of the area’s median. The county requires that applicants have been adversely affected by COVID-19, although no clear examples have been provided by officials.

The county also stated that applicants have to “have been negatively impacted by COVID-19″, but officials have not provided clear examples of what would constitute being “negatively impacted.” Applications can be made electronically through the Breathe Program website from June 20 through July 3. Only 200 people will be elected.

Georgia

The Georgia state government has announced rebates of $250 for individuals and $500 for couples. These rebates are only applicable to residents who have filed tax returns for both 2021 and 2022. Those who submitted their returns before April 18th can expect to receive their payment this month, although it may take up to eight weeks to receive.

Massachusetts

As a taxpayer, you may be entitled to a refund of approximately fourteen percent of your state tax liability. This sizeable refund is due to a revenue surplus that exceeded state regulations, and the tax authority has been assigned to distribute the excess back to taxpayers.

The first set of payments was issued in December, but they were only disbursed to individuals who filed their 2021 tax returns before October 17, 2022.

Following the initial batch, the tax authority has been delivering the refund checks a month after receiving the return. This implies that those who filed in May would receive their payment in June.

New Jersey

About 2 million New Jersey households became eligible for property tax rebates, thanks to Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters (ANCHOR).

As part of the ANCHOR benefits program, 50,000 individuals will receive a sum of $450. The disbursement process is ongoing and the recipients will receive the funds through direct deposit or check. The application deadline for the program ended on February 28th.

Other payments in 2023

Minnesota

Additionally, Minnesota residents who are eligible will receive direct tax refunds thanks to a law signed in May, with payments scheduled for 2023. Thanks to a law signed in May, the Minnesota Department of Revenue will send direct tax refunds to eligible residents. Payments will be from:

  • $520 for married couples filing jointly with an adjusted gross income of $150,000 or less
  • $260 for all others with adjusted gross income of $75,000 or less
  • Another $260 for each dependent claimed on your return, up to three dependents

Taxpayers are eligible who:

  • Were Minnesota residents for part or all of 2021
  • Filed one of the following returns for that tax year:
  • Form M1, Minnesota Individual Income Tax
  • Form M1PR, Real Estate Credit Refund (for Homeowners) and Renter's Property Tax Refund
  • Filed their return before December 31, 2022
  • Were not claimed as a dependent on someone else's 2021 Minnesota income tax return

Residents do not have to apply for this payment. It will be sent directly to eligible taxpayers based on tax year 2021 income or property tax returns. According to the state’s tax authority, payments will begin in the fall.
