On July 21, President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from his re-election bid. The president offered his full support to Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him and face Donald Trump in the general election on November 5. A week after Biden’s announcement, the presumptive Democratic candidate was ahead in the polls.

According to the latest Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll, Harris and Trump are in a tight race, with 48% of voters backing the Democrat and 47% favoring the Republican. In addition to voter preference, Harris’ support among public figures has also seen a considerable increase.

Musician John Legend has mentioned being “very ready” for a Harris presidency, while director Spike Lee and actors Mark Hamill, Rosie O’Donnell and Jamie Lee Curtis have also expressed they were backing the vice president.

Support for Harris has also increased among Gen Z voters. Singer/actress Olivia Rodrigo and singer/songwriter Charlie XCX are the youngest artists to come out to rally behind her.

Other big names in music who have shown their support for Harris include Beyoncé, Megan The Stallion and Cardi B.

The ‘White Dudes for Harris’ movement

Meanwhile, a fund-raising campaign for the vice president dubbed “White Dudes for Harris” was streamed on YouTube and raised more than $4 million. Celebrities joined the event conducted via Zoom, among them actors Jeff Bridges, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Mark Hamill, and singer Josh Groban. Organizers said they came up with the name to show that the MAGA right does not have a monopoly on the votes of white men.
