On July 26, a homeland security subcommittee of the House Oversight Committee called a hearing on UFOs or Unidentified Flying Objects.

During the hearing, three retired military officers testified under oath, about “unidentified anomalous phenomena” or UAP, more commonly known as UFOs. The three witnesses warned that the sightings constitute a national security problem. They also made it clear that the government has kept this issue tightly under wraps.

The three witnesses who testified were Ryan Graves, a former navy pilot who now heads Americans for Safe Aerospace; David Fravor, a retired US Navy major; and David Grusch, a former Air Force intelligence officer. No government official testified at the hearing.

Statements by Ryan Graves and David Fravor

Graves recounted his experiences of sightings of unknown objects. He described them as “dark gray or black cubes… within a transparent sphere, where the apex or tips of the cubes touched the interior of that sphere”. He clarified that these sightings “were not rare or isolated.”

The witnesses agreed that it was a national security issue.

“If the unidentified anomalous phenomena are foreign drones, it is an urgent national security issue. If it is something else, it is a problem for science. In any case, unidentified objects are a concern for flight safety. The American people deserve to know what is happening in our skies. It’s long overdue,” according to Graves per CBS News.

For his part, Fravor recounted his 2004 encounter with an object off the coast of California. He told the subcommittee that he and another pilot saw an oval-shaped object floating on the water before it rapidly ascended about 12,000 feet into the air, after which it accelerated and disappeared. He said the object was detected approximately 60 miles away less than a minute later.

“I think what we experienced was, as I said, way beyond the materials, science, and capabilities that we had at the time, that we have today, or that we will have in the next 10 to 20 years,” said Fravor according to CBS News.

David Grusch's statements

Grusch, who served as a representative on two Pentagon task forces investigating unidentified anomalous phenomena until earlier this year, told lawmakers that he was made aware of “a multi-decade UFO reverse engineering and failover program.”

He added that he was denied access to those programs upon request, and accused the military of misappropriating funds to shield these operations from congressional oversight. Grusch also mentioned that he had interviewed officials who had direct knowledge of aircraft with “non-human” origins, and that “non-human biologicals” were recovered from some aircraft.
