Who is Andrew Tate and what’s his net worth?

The former kickboxing world champion has been arrested in Romania on sex trafficking and rape charges.

Andrew Tate banned from Facebook and Instagram

Andrew Tate may not be a name familiar to many, but the 35-year old internet celebrity is becoming well known in the UK and US due to his podcast and Tik Tok presence. He has made a big switch in the last few years from a kickboxer and mixed martial arts fighter.

His last professional fight came in 2020 but by then he had won four world championship belts. These came in a five-year period between 2009 and 2014. Despite his American accent, Tate holds dual citizenship in the UK and US and he lives in Romania.

Readers in the UK may know Tate better for his short stint on the TV in Big Brother series 17 in 2016. Lasting only a week, Tate was ejected from the house when a video was published in the British press of him beating a woman with a belt. Despite his denials, he was sent home.

In April 2022, Romanian police broke into his compound after they received a tip that a US citizen was being held against her will. The allegations went further and alleged that Andrew and his brother Tristan, forced the women they were holding into sex work.

After the raid, he took to Instagram, where he posted a picture in a fake interrogation room, smoking a cigar, with the caption, “Officer...l think we can all agree that bitches love to lie.” In the case the allegations are false, the serious charges levied against him should prompt a more measured response.

Since then Romanian police carried out a raid on Tate’s house in connection with the kidnapping of two girls. Andrew and his brother Tristan have been detained for 24 hours, and are being investigated on rape and human trafficking allegations.

Tate’s arrest comes a day after being roasted by teen activist Greta Thunberg, and his attempt to hit back at her may have led police to his home. He uploaded a video rant on Twitter, and there was a pizza box from a local chain visible in the foreground which indicated to the authorities that he was in the country.

A big social media presence

On his social media, Tate is frequently clipped with the common “common Tate W”, W for win, of him discussing women in a derogatory manner. In one such exchange, he conflates women and dogs in terms of obedience: “You can’t be responsible for something that doesn’t listen to you. You can’t be responsible for a dog if it doesn’t obey you, or a child if it doesn’t obey you, or a woman that doesn’t obey you.”

Tate has his own programme called the “Hustler’s University 2.0″. It boasts over 100,000 members and charges $49.99 a month. Members can learn about cryptocurrency, stocks, e-commerce in what many have described as a pyramid scheme

What is his net worth?

Tate’s net worth is hard to pin down as he has not publicly released any information on the matter. Tate has previously stated that “Kickboxing did not make me rich even though I am a four-time world champion, the most money I got paid for a fight ever was one hundred thousand dollars”.

Tate has shown off his $2.5 million Bugatti Chiron on his Twitterand his excessive and extravagant lifestyle points to someone with money in the millions.

If the claim of 100,000 members for his programme is true, then the team behind “Hustler’s University 2.0″ would be raking in around $5 million a month. This figure seems far too large and take it with a very large pinch of salt.
