He is the co-founder and executive director of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), which he started in 2012 with Bill Montgomery. TPUSA is a conservative student organization that aims to promote the principles of free markets and limited government.
He briefly attended Harper College before dropping out to focus on political activism. He is also the chief executive officer of Turning Point Action, Turning Point Academy, and Turning Point Faith. In 2019, he founded Turning Point Action, a political advocacy group.
On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Kirk was shot at an event at Utah Valley University. The shooting was condemned by politicians from various parties. A suspect has been taken into custody. The university stated that the campus has been closed.
