Who is expected to testify at the Alec Baldwin manslaughter trial?
The involuntary manslaughter trial against Alec Baldwin has begun, with both sides giving opening statements. Find out who the possible witnesses may be.
The involuntary manslaughter trial against actor Alec Baldwin began on Tuesday, July 9. The legal process started with the selection of a full 12-person jury, after which opening arguments were presented on Wednesday, July 10.
In this trial, Baldwin is accused of involuntary manslaughter for the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film “Rust’” in 2021.
The actor was first charged with involuntary manslaughter in January 2023. In April of that year, prosecutors dropped the case against him, but in January 2024, Baldwin was again charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Last month, Baldwin’s attorneys asked the judge to dismiss the case, arguing that the firearm that killed Hutchins was severely damaged during forensic testing at an FBI laboratory. The motion was denied. If found guilty, the actor could face up to 18 months in prison.

What happened in October 2021 on the set of ‘Rust’?
The director of photography for the film “Rust”, Halyna Hutchins, died on October 21, 2021 after the film’s actor and producer, Alec Baldwin, accidentally fired a gun while at the movie set.
Reports indicate that Baldwin fired a prop gun during rehearsal for a scene for the film. The actor had been practicing drawing his gun from its holster when a bullet from the revolver passed through director Joel Souza’s shoulder and hit Hutchins in the chest.

Halyna was transported by helicopter to the University of New Mexico Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, while the director was only hospitalized and declared out of danger.
Baldwin pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter charges brought against him. Since 2021, the actor has maintained that he did not pull the trigger of the gun before shooting. He stressed that before receiving the gun, he was told that the gun was “cold,” meaning one without live ammunition.
Who is expected to testify at Alec Baldwin’s trial?
The trial is scheduled to last about 10 days in Santa Fe County District Court, where it will be live streamed.
The witness lists of the prosecution and the defense include members of the production of “Rust”, including Souza and Seth Kenney, the movie’s main weapons and ammunition supplier, as well as several members of the team who sued Baldwin over the shooting.
One of the defense’s witnesses is Dave Halls, who last year accepted a plea deal after admitting that he did not properly check the gun on the day of the shooting. Law enforcement officials who investigated the case and weapons experts are also expected to take the stand.
It is unclear whether Baldwin will take the stand.
