Kristi Noem, the current governor of South Dakota, has recently been in the spotlight due to revelations in her upcoming memoir, “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward.” In this book, Noem candidly shares a controversial incident from her past: the euthanization of her dog, Cricket.

What is the controversy surrounding Kristi Noem all about?

Noem stated that she made the challenging choice to euthanize her 14-month-old wirehaired pointer, Cricket, due to its “aggressive personality” and perceived difficulty in training. The confession has caused a strong reaction and received criticism from individuals with varying political beliefs. Alyssa Farah Griffin, co-host of “The View” and a former Donald Trump White House staffer, expressed her belief that dogs are a divine blessing. “Dogs are a gift from God. They’re a reflection of his unconditional love. Anyone who would needlessly hurt an animal because they are inconvenient needs help.”

The Democratic National Committee also expressed their strong disapproval of the excerpts from Noem’s book, describing them as deeply troubling and alarming. Noem, however, stood by her decision, emphasizing that making tough choices is a regular occurrence on a farm.

She also shared the heartbreaking news that her family had to say goodbye to three beloved horses just a few weeks ago. These horses had been cherished members of their family for an incredible 25 years.

Do Republicans stand by Kristi Noem?

Recent polling indicates that a only 14% of Americans view her as a favorable option for the Republican ticket. It is worth noting that a significant majority of 2020 Trump voters, specifically 86%, express a fondness for dogs.

Additionally, a notable percentage of these voters, 39%, do not consider Noem to be a suitable candidate for the position of vice president. A mere 22% of individuals showed faith in her abilities as a candidate.
