The race to the presidential election continues to heat up, with all the key players now in place. In July, Donald Trump officially accepted the Republican nomination, while next week, Kamala Harris will accept the Democratic nomination after President Joe Biden’s withdrawal.

As the Democratic National Convention and the first debate between Trump and Harris approach, new polls show the vice president has pulled ahead of the Republican in key states: Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

On August 10, the New York Times shared the results of a poll it conducted with Siena College, which revealed a new electoral outlook, with Harris leading the former president in these three crucial battleground states.

According to the survey, Harris is ahead of Trump by four percentage points in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan, or 50% to 46% among likely voters in each state. The polls were conducted from Aug. 5 to 9.

This is one of the first high-quality polls to be shared since Biden announced his withdrawal. When the president was still in the race, surveys showed a tie. However, after the first presidential debate, Trump took a slight lead.

When is the first debate between Kamala Harris and Trump?

Although Trump was seeking to get Harris to agree to face him in a debate on Fox News, the Democratic candidate has indicated that the first debate against the Republican will be on September 10 on ABC News, which was previously agreed upon when Biden was still campaigning for re-election.

Michael Tyler, communications director for the Harris-Walz 2024 campaign, said in a statement that Donald Trump's campaign had accepted his proposal for three debates, two presidential and one vice presidential.

Assuming Donald Trump shows up on September 10th to debate Vice President Harris, then Governor [Tim] Walz will see JD Vance on October 1st and the American people will have another opportunity to see Vice President [Harris] and Donald Trump on the debate stage in October,” he said.

Voters deserve to see the candidates for the highest office in the land share their competing visions for our future. The more they play games, the more insecure and unserious Trump and Vance will appear to the American people. Those games end now,” he continued.

The date and location of the second presidential debate between Harris and Trump have not yet been confirmed.
