Who is Maya Guerra Gamble, the judge in the Alex Jones defamation trial?

After a chaotic few weeks in court, Alex Jones, the InfoWars owner and host will be required to pay over $49 million in damages to one of the families of one of the Sandy Hook Massacre victims.

Jones was sued for defamation after spewing conspiracy theories for years that the shooting that ended the lives of twenty children and six adults was a false flag operation created by the government to take the arms of US citizen.

During the trial, Jones was notably absent throughout as he was off shooting his show and engaging in conspiratorial speech about the parents suing him as well as the judge. He was asked about these comments by Mark Bankston, the attorney for the parents of Sandy Hook victim Jesse Lewis. Bankston asked Jones if he had told his listeners that had said that the judge had “worked with Child Protective Services,” an organization Jones claimed, “is involved with pedophilia and child trafficking?”

Jones responded “No, that’s not what I’m saying.”

The reply by Jones on the stand was undermined by the evidence submitted to the court record after he responded. Bankston added to the record a photo cut from a video released by InfoWars that showed lady justice on fire with images of Judge Guerra Gamble in the background. When the photos were shown to the judge, she laughed slightly.

When the trial began, the judge ensured Jones and his team understood that this would not be their show.

“If at any time I feel like a performance is being given, or this is being used for some purpose other than the trial,” said Judge Guerra Gamble. She also informed Jones that she would “throw out news media” if he tried to turn the case into a show trial to promote himself.

The judge reprimanded Jones and his legal team on multiple occasions. This includes when Jones told the jury that he was bankrupt, which the judge saw as an attempt to manipulate the jurors into lowering the amount in damages they would mandate he pay to the plaintiffs. Later in the trial the public learned through records sent by Jones’ lawyers that he was making around $800,000 a day in 2018.

Judge Guerra Gamble was elected to her position as Texas 459the District Court judge in 2018. She will seek reelection this year, and interest in her campaign has peeked after videos of her performance in the courtroom were posted online.

The judge graduated with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and JD from Yale University in the 1990s. She is a Texas native and has worked in the state since her graduation. After graduating she was a trial lawyer, then going on to run for judge after more than two decades defending clients.
