The completed ticket is energizing Democratic voters, and as another woman runs for the highest office in the land, the events are calling for a look back at the time when Hillary Clinton sought to be the first female president of the United States.

Who was Hillary Clinton’s running mate in the 2016 presidential election?

Clinton’s failed presidential bid is now but another chapter in the country’s political history. Eight years after she lost the election despite winning the national popular vote, a number of Americans may well find it a challenge to recall whom she chose as her vice presidential candidate.

On July 22, 2016, less than four months before the election, Clinton named Virginia Senator Timothy Kaine as her running mate.

Who is Timothy Kaine, Hillary Clinton’s running mate in the 2016 presidential election?

Tim Kaine is a senator from Virginia, who has served in that position since 2013. After his defeat as vice president, he was re-elected to another term in the senate in 2018.

He has held various political positions in Virginia. He started off as an elected member of the Richmond City Council, then went on to serve as mayor of Richmond.

Kaine was then elected as the Lieutenant Governor of the Virginia, and after that term, he was voted as the 70th governor of the state.

The 66-year-old is an active leader within the Democratic Party, and was chair of the Democratic National Committee from 2009 to 2011.
