Update:

Officials have confirmed that four people were killed during a mass shooting in Manhattan on Monday evening.

The attack is thought to have been the work of a lone gunman who entered a skyscraper on 345 Park Avenue and opened fire. The building is located near the Museum of Modern Art and Grand Central, and houses the corporate offices of the NFL and Blackstone.

The scene was quickly closed off to the public and police were soon able to announce the death of the gunman. Reports say that he died from a self-inflicted injury.

NBC has reported that the shooter has been identified as Shane Devon Tamura, a 27-year-old from Las Vegas. The New York Times confirms that report, adding that he is thought to have had a concealed carry license for a handgun, along with an expired private investigator license.

Mr. Tamura has a documented mental health history,” NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said. “His motives are still under investigation and we are working to understand why he targeted this particular location,”

A source has told CNN that the suspect was a competitive football player in his youth, although that has not yet been confirmed. Images from a CCTV camera appear to show Tamura holding an M4 rifle, wearing sunglasses, a blue jacket, black trousers and sneakers.

Police were able use the security footage to track his movements back to a nearby car, which he was seen leaving alone. A motive has not yet been confirmed.

The latest count puts the number of victims killed at four, three members of the public and one off-duty police officer, who was believed to have been working as security. A fifth victim was also shot but is still in hospital.

“Unfortunately, we had a shooting here with multiple injuries,” New York Mayor Eric Adams said in a video on X. “The perpetrator, the lone perpetrator, is neutralized at this time.
