A new round of Social Security payments will be sent this week. On Wednesday, June 12, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will issue the second check to be released for the month of June. Most of the beneficiaries are retired workers.

The SSA issues payments based on the recipients’ date of birth, while the amount that they will receive will depend on various factors. In the case of retirees, these include the number of years worked, the taxes paid during that period, and the age at which they requested retirement. The longer you wait to request your retirement benefits, the higher the monthly payment will be.

How much is the average monthly Social Security payment?

Social Security payments increase annually to avoid the loss of purchasing power for beneficiaries, especially when inflation is high. This increase is known as Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA). With the 3.2% COLA increase in 2024, SSA estimates put the average payment for a retired worker at $1,900 and $3,303 for couples filing jointly. For SSI beneficiaries, the approximate amount is $943 for individuals and $1,415 for couples.
