Who will receive two Social Security payments in December?
Those who receive Supplemental Security Income will receive a second check in December. Here is the reason for it as well as the exact payment date.
The Social Security Administration is sending the last payments of the year for retired workers, as well as checks for survivors and disability benefits, including Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Each of the Social Security beneficiaries has a payment scheduled for December; however, some will receive another check at the end of the month, which will be higher than the ones they’ve been collecting previously.

Supplemental Security Income recipients will receive one more payment at the end of December.
Generally, SSI payments are sent on the first day of each month. However, if the first of the month is a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, payments are advanced to the previous business day.
According to the schedule, the SSA sent this month’s payment to SSI beneficiaries on Dec. 1. However, the agency will send a second payment on Friday, Dec. 29. What is the reason for this?
Because Monday, Jan. 1, 2024 is a federal holiday, the Supplemental Security Income payment will be advanced and sent on December 29, 2023.

The second SSI payment in December will be higher
According to the SSA, SSI payments in 2023 have been $914 for individuals who qualify for the program and $1,371 for couples in which both spouses are eligible for the program. Fortunately for these beneficiaries, the payment on Dec. 29, as well as all those in 2024, will be higher.
This advance payment corresponds to January 2024, so it will already have the 3.2% increase dictated by the cost of living adjustment (COLA).
With this 3.2%, the standard federal SSI payment will increase by $29, from $914 to $943 for individuals, while couples will see an increase of $44, from $1,371 to $1,415 month.
