Why are people boycotting Chipotle? The Mexican grill restaurant is under attack, again

Some people are urging customers to boycott popular fast food brand Chipotle, this time for being ‘woke’. What’s the latest boycott call all about?

Chipotle Mexican Grill, commonly known as Chipotle, has weathered several calls for a boycott of the restaurant over the years. People have urged diners to boycott the fast-casual dining establishment in the past for reasons ranging from not treating workers right, to spooning out inconsistent serving sizes, to overpricing their burritos.

Reddit post on ‘misgendering’ goes viral

The latest brouhaha began with a Reddit post by a user who said they worked at Chipotle. According to Extreme_Paper5550, they were written up for “accidentally misgendering” a new employee.

“I was recently training a new hire (somebody I’ve never met in my life mind that), and as I’m showing them how to set up line I say ‘oh bro we never move anything without gloves,” wrote the Reddit user.

“They snap back and say ‘my pronouns are they/them use them correctly or don’t talk to me.’ I take a step back and go throughout my day without speaking to the little s***,” continued the post.

Extreme_Paper5550 then said their manager talked to them and said they’ve been reported by the new worker for “misgendering harassment”, with the manager saying he has no choice but to give a full write up on the matter.

Conservatives warn: ‘Go woke, go broke’

The incident blew up after conservative political commentator Nick Adams shared the Reddit post, commenting that would “never eat at Chipotle again.”

He later posted a video in which he holds a burrito and says Chipotle “embodies the worst of the DEI (diversity, equality, inclusion) woke BS” in society.

Adams ends the video by saying the boycott “begins right now,” after which he throws the burrito on the ground. The post has already reached more than a million views.

It remains to be seen whether the latest boycott call will affect the chain’s revenue, which reached close to $10 billion last year.
