US ELECTION 2024
Why are voters wearing trash bags to vote on election day?
In the presidential campaign the terms garbage and trash came up on several occasions, but it’s not exactly clear who identifies as garbage and goes to the poll wearing trash liners
Several voters have uploaded photos and videos of themselves going to the polling place on Nov. 5 to cast their ballots while wearing trash bags. At a rally at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 27 A comic tried to get a laugh from the Trump supporters by calling Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage.” The voters on Twitter today don’t seem to be Latino voters and seem to be proud of being referred to as garbage.
Who are the voters wearing trash bags to vote on Nov. 5?
Approximately a week ago, current President Joe Biden, said to a Latino group on an evening video call, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters — his — his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American.” The voters sporting black trash bags on election day are definitely not Puerto Rican voters or Latinos.
The proud Trump voters found a loophole to the no political messaging on clothes rule at polling places. As we can see in the tweets, an entire family decided to make clear who they’re voting for:
While the other tweet is a residence flying a garbage bag alongside a Trump banner.
It looks like Biden’s comment may have encouraged some Trump supporters to get out and vote and show their true colors on Nov. 5.
