Why there could be a double SSI payment in May

The reason why two payments will be made to Supplemental Security Income recipients in May.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive two payments in May. Why? Well, the reason has to do with the payment schedule established by the Social Security Adminstration (SSA). SSI benefits are paid on the first of the month, but when the first falls on a holiday or weekend, they are paid on the previous working day. While in May, the first lands on a Wednesday, the first of June falls on a Saturday, meaning that the June payment will be sent on Friday, 31 May. In August and in November, two payments will also be received by SSI beneficiaries for the same reason.

  • Under 18: $821.38

The payments for seniors are lower than those distributed to other age groups because many beneficiaries are also eligible to receive Social Security benefits.
