Why did Khloé Kardashian use a surrogate to have her baby?
In August it was confirmed that Khloé and ex Tristan welcomed a second child into the world this time via a surrogate to avoid a “high risk” pregnancy.
The second season of The Kardashians on Hulu kicked off on Thursday 22 September with a new member to the reality TV family clan. A surrogate gave birth to Khloé Kardashian’s second child, a boy, with now ex-boyfriend Tristan Thompson.
The new arrival comes just months after the former couple split due to infidelity on the part of the NBA star that resulted in the birth of his then third child. The newest addition to The Kardashian’s cast was conceived just prior to Tristan’s affair coming to light.

To know why the youngest Kardashian sister and then boyfriend decided to use a surrogate to have another child you need to go back to the final season premiere episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians in March 2021. Khloé revealed that her doctor had told her that if she chose to carry another child she would have a elevated possibility of a “high-risk” pregnancy.
“They said it’s like an 80-something percent chance that I will miscarry. I almost miscarried with True at the beginning. But I didn’t know that was like a lingering thing,” she said. However, she wouldn’t go into specifics on-camera about what exactly she was told.
“This is all really shocking to me,” Khloé continued. “All I’m trying to do is bring more love into my life and into my family, and I just seem to be running into more and more roadblocks. It’s really hard for me to digest.”
With the birth of her second child, the Good American founder said she’s ready to move on.
“Ever since December, it’s been this dark cloud looming over me. Every single day, I’ve been feeling depressed and sad, and now that my son is here. I get to move on, and I get to enjoy. It’s almost like I get to close that chapter and be done with this trauma and put it behind me,” she said during a confessional.
“Now I finally get to start the healing process. Now I get to start enjoying my life with two kids in it and figuring this out.”
Khloé learned about Tristan’s indiscretions after baby was conceived
The announcement in July that the former couple were expecting a second child came as a bit of a surprise to fans, not least because Khloé and Tristan broke up in January. That happened after it came to light that the NBA star had fathered another child with Maralee Nichols.
The baby boy, whose name has not been revealed yet, was conceived in November prior to knowledge of the tryst and the resulting pregnancy of the fitness model with Tristan’s then third child. Khloé and Tristan have a four-year-old daughter True Thompson.
The former couple did an embryo transfer days before Thanksgiving, and Khloé didn’t learn about Tristan’s situation until the first week of December. “It’s just so close. I wouldn’t want anyone to think I did this after the fact,” she recalled. “Why would I want to have a baby with someone who is having a baby with somebody else?”
Major hint given for baby’s name
In true Kardashian fashion, the birth of Khloé and Tristan’s new baby boy featured in the Season 2 premiere of The Kardashians, with Kim Kardashian filming the delivery. Following in sister Kylie Jenner’s lead, the name of the newest Kardashian hasn’t been announced yet.
However, during a conversation with her mother it was revealed that “It is going to start with a T” to match her and Tristan’s four-year-old daughter’s name True.
