The fallout from the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files continued on Thursday for at least some who called the late sex offender a close friend.

Authorities in the United Kingdom have arrested Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the disgraced former British royal, on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

While he was not identified, “as per national guidance,” in an official statement by the Thames Valley Police, the former prince, who turns 66 today, was taken into custody and his two properties in Berkshire and Norfolk are being searched as part of an investigation into the alleged sharing of confidential documents.

“Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office,” said Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright. “It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence.”

“We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time,” he added.

The brother of King Charles III and son of the late Queen Elizabeth II, who was officially stripped of “His Royal Highness” status and the title of Prince in November, has consistently denied any wrongdoing and says that he regrets his friendship with Epstein. Virginia Giuffre, who died by suicide in 2025, had accused the former price and Epstein of sexually abusing her when she was a teenager.
