Young Thug pleads guilty, gets out of jail

He entered his guilty plea on six charges, two others he pleaded no contest, without reaching a deal with prosecutors leaving up to the discretion of the judge overseeing the case to determine a sentence.

Why has rapper Young Thug been released from jail? What was he accused of?

The Grammy-award winning artist, whose given name is Jeffery Williams, pleaded guilty to one gang charge, three drug charges and two gun charges the Associated Press reported. For another gang charge and a racketeering conspiracy charge Young Thug entered a no contest plea, which while not pleading guilty the charges are still punishable as if he pleaded guilty.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Paige Reese Whitaker opted to sentence the rapper to 40 years in prison, the first five to be served behind bars. After that he will be on probation for 15 years. If he completes probation without any violations, the remaining 20 years will be commuted. However, if he commits any violations during that time he will have to serve those 20 years.

The judge, however, commuted the first five years of his sentence as time already served, but any violations and he can be put in jail. During the next ten years he must stay away from the metro Atlanta area but will be allowed to visit for weddings, funerals, graduations or serious illness of family members.
