Social media trends can sometimes create a scare for certain users like one of the latest “Rip Taylor.” Several posts were worried that it was about Tayor Swift, fortunately she’s fine. However, not so for an old, autographed guitar of hers that someone bought at an auction.

The ‘Rip Taylor’ social media trend is pretty much as silly as paying $4,000 for something just to smash it up because of a political leaning, video of which is also going viral on social.

Why is Rip Taylor trending on X (Twitter)? Who was Rip Taylor?

Basically ‘Rip Taylor’ trending on social media comes down to trying to change with whom the public associates the “weird” tag that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz used this summer to describe the Republican party’s policies in the 2024 race. The label caught on and has gotten under the skin prompting the GOP ticket’s supporters to try to project it onto the Democratic vice presidential candidate instead.

Apparently, according to social media, Fox personality Greg Gutfeld compared Walz to the flamboyant actor and comedian Rip Taylor, who died in 2019. For those of you who don’t know him, he was known for his exuberant, confetti flying entrances and cringeworthy puns based on the numerous props he had with him to back them up as well as his boisterous laughter. Thus, the memes on social media of Walz making his own entrances with confetti and exuberant hand gestures waving to the crowds.

This is just the latest attempt to transfer the “weird” label to Kamala Harris’ pick to be her number two on the Democratic ticket. It comes as Walz and JD Vance, the Republican candidate to be the next vice president, will face off in the first and only vice presidential debate on Tuesday, October 1.

It will also most likely be the last chance American voters will have to compare a head-to-head between any of the candidates on the Democratic and Republican presidential tickets in the 2024 race for the White House. Trump and Harris have been invited by CNN to debate on October 23.

While Harris accepted, Trump said it was “just too late” for another debate. He was widely viewed as having lost the first face-to-face in September on ABC where Harris was able to skillfully bait him into making unhinged and even crazier than usual statements.
