Why is there a shortage of Clorox products? Bleach, wipes and other items are scarce
An August cyberattack has slowed production of The Clorox Company products, meaning not only bleach is affected but a whole host of items.

If you are looking for Clorox-branded bleach and disinfectant products, you may find very few in the coming months. The Clorox Company said it is “operating at a lower rate of order processing and has recently begun to experience an elevated level of consumer product availability issues.”
In normal speak it means they can’t make the stuff quick enough.
The reason behind the slow production is the fallout of a cyberattack. Clorox initially disclosed the breach in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on 14 August with an investigation still ongoing. However, it was announced this week that the disruption caused has been “widespread”
“Due to order processing delays and elevated level of product outages, the company now believes the impact will be material on Q1 financial results,” the company said.
Which products are affected?
At this stage the company has not disclosed which products are affected.
However, it should be clear on supermarktet aisles what is missing. Be prepared to pick up an adjacent product if you are looking to by Clorox-branded items in the coming weeks.
Aside from the well-known Clorox bleach, the company owns these items, among others:
- Pine-Sol: a brand of household cleaning products, including multi-surface cleaners and disinfectants
- Glad: known for its plastic wrap, food storage containers, trash bags, and related products
- Kingsford: a brand of charcoal products used for grilling and barbecuing
- Burt's Bees: a popular brand of natural personal care products, including lip balms, skincare, and cosmetics
