Former Hollywood mogul and convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein is facing several health problems and is in a prison hospital.

“Weinstein was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for conditions he still deals with on a daily basis, including diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, fluid in his heart and lungs and several other conditions,” his representative and prison consultant Craig Rothfeld told NBC News.

The 72-year-old former tycoon has also been diagnosed with COVID-19 and double pneumonia. Meanwhile, Weinstein is awaiting a new trial in his rape case in New York after his conviction was overturned in April.

This is the second time in three months that Weinstein has been hospitalized in New York. In April, just two days after news broke that his rape conviction would be overturned, he was hospitalized for a series of tests.

“They examined him and sent him to Bellevue,” his attorney Arthur Aidala told The Associated Press at the time. “It appears he needs a lot of physical help. He has a lot of issues. They’re doing all kinds of tests on him. His health is kind of a mess,” he added.

Why was Harvey Weinstein’s conviction overturned?

In April, the New York Court of Appeals overturned Weinstein’s conviction for sexual offenses after finding that the judge had come to improper rulings, including a decision to allow women to testify about allegations that were not part of the case.

Although the decision on his case was overturned, Weinstein remains in prison. His conviction may have been overturned in New York, but he still has to serve a 16-year sentence for sexual assault charges he faced in California.
