Immigration is one of the main issues that voters are considering when deciding who to vote for in the upcoming presidential elections.

Republican candidate Donald Trump has shared several times that he will implement the largest deportation program in the history of the United States, in addition to securing the border, enforcing immigration laws, implementing a deportation program, strict investigation, stopping sanctuary cities, and prioritizing American workers.

For her part, as the electoral contest progresses, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris has given the impression of aligning her party’s position closer to that of the Republicans. The vice president has taken a very enforcement-focused approach, shifting away from programs like DACA that provide legal protections to immigrant children brought to the United States and who have spent more of their lives here.

Will Kamala Harris build a wall on the border?

or years, Democrats, including the vice president, have called Donald Trump’s border wall a “vanity project” that wasted billions of taxpayer dollars.

However, Harris has included a similar measure in her border security plan. The presidential candidate has proposed filling in strategic sections of the wall along the nearly 2,000-mile southwest border.

He has also promised to revive the bipartisan border security bill that failed to pass Congress in late May. This legislation includes continuing construction of the wall.

According to its text, the border bill would have provided for 1,500 border agents, technology, and the “immediate resumption” of border wall construction that was underway in 2021. Meanwhile, at a CNN town hall, when pressed on her stance on border security, the vice president dodged the issue and refused to give a direct answer on whether she now supports building more walls. She also made it appear that her opposition to the proposal was that her opponent said that Mexico would pay for it, implying that if the US neighbor to the south were to pay for the wall, it would be a smart policy.

Kamala Harris on illegal immigration: “There should be consequences”

In an interview with CNN in late August, Harris and Walz discussed the immigration crisis in the United States. The network’s Dana Bash pressed her on how migrants, some of whom are hoping to claim asylum in the US, should be treated if they cross illegally.

Harris responded that she believes “there should be consequences.” “We have laws that need to be followed and enforced to address and deal with people who cross our border illegally. And there should be consequences,” she said.

The candidate added that she is the only person in the race who has “prosecuted transnational criminal organizations that traffic in weapons, drugs and human beings,” a talking point she has repeated on several occasions.
