Will Walmart, Costco, Target and regional chains be open on Labor Day?
Planning to have a Labor Day get-together and you’ve realized that you are missing some key ingredient? Here’s which stores will be open on the holiday.
Whether you’re planning a cookout with family and friends or having a get-together to watch the US Open on Labor Day, you might be wondering where, if anywhere, you can run out to for some last-minute supplies. While many businesses do respect Labor Day, closing so that their workers can enjoy the holiday dedicated to them, there are some that keep their doors open.
Unlike Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, most major retailers and grocery stores will be open on Labor Day, which is held annually on the first Monday of September, however, some businesses may operate with shorter hours.
The stock market, in the same way as banks, pharmacies and government offices are closed Monday.
Walmart and Target keep their doors open
Walmart will continue to be the savior for many families on Labor Day, as it keeps its doors open for customers, most of them working at their usual opening and closing hours. Nevertheless, people may want to double check first with their Walmart’s Store Finder tool, just in case their local Walmart store has changed its schedule slightly and is operating with shorter hours.
For those who are too busy preparing for the big day and can’t spend their time going shopping, you can always save time shopping online as Walmart’s website is opened 24 hours.
Target will also open on Labor Day and Labor weekend, with regular store hours from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The chain is opened 363 days a year with just Christmas Day and Easter Sunday off, so if you are the kind of person that can’t live without Target in your life, you won’t have to worry for most federal holidays. The answer is most-likely: “Yes, it’s open”.
Other grocery stores that will be open include Aldi, Kroger, Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods.
Costco among the businesses closed on Labor Day
As so many grocery stores are open on major holidays, you’d naturally assume that a big retail store like Costco would be open as well. But sadly, the reigning croissant supermarket unlike Walmart and Target will remain closed on Labor Day.
No driving to another Costco, even if it’s the one from your neighbor state, will save consumers from this one, as it’s not just a matter of a few, but all of Costco’s supermarkets will be closed.
In fact, according to Costco’s calendar on its website, Labor Day is not the only day that the retail store closes for. New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas, are also among the free days for Costco’s personnel.
However, you can always go on Labor weekend and benefit from its multiple weekend offers, when Costco will be open on regular operating hours, from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
