Will you receive $1,900 from Social Security on Tuesday, Dec. 24? Find out if you’re on the list

The Social Security Administration is about to issue the last round of payments sent by date of birth for the month of December: List of beneficiaries

The Social Security Administration sends out almost 73 million payments each month to its program beneficiaries. These include retired workers, survivors, as well as recipients of Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income.

The agency follows a distribution schedule based on recipients' date of birth and the type of benefits they collect.

Payments for retirees are generally issued on Wednesdays.

Those born between the 1st and 10th of the month receive their money on the second Wednesday; those born between the 11th and 20th receive theirs on the third Wednesday of the month, and those born between the 21st and 31st get their checks on the fourth.

Workers who started receiving their retirement payments before May 1997 are not covered by this schedule. They receive their benefits on the third day of the month, regardless of their date of birth.

Supplemental Security Income payments are usually made on the 1st of each month. Those who receive both SSI and Social Security benefits receive SSI on the 1st of the month and Social Security according to the birth-date schedule.

How much money do I receive from Social Security?

The amount that beneficiaries receive from Social Security varies from person to person, as it depends on several factors such as contribution history and the age at which the individual requests retirement payments.

Social Security provides a list of official estimates that offer a clearer picture to those who are planning their financial future.

In 2024, the average monthly payment for an individual retiree is $1,907 and is $3,303 per month for couples filing jointly. SSI recipients get an average of $943 per month for individuals and $1,415 for couples.

Who will receive $1,900 from Social Security on Dec. 24?

The Social Security calendar will be adjusted this week. The payment schedule for retirees usually falls on a Wednesday, but since Christmas Day is on Wednesday and is a federal holiday, the benefit will be brought forward and sent on the previous business day, which is Tuesday, Dec. 24.

The beneficiaries who will receive an average payment of $1,900 on Tuesday, Dec. 24, are those whose date of birth is between the 21st and 31st of the month.

After this payment, the Social Security Administration will send out the final check of the year on Tuesday, Dec. 31 for SSI beneficiaries. This amount is the payment for the month of January 2025, also brought forward a day earlier because Jan. 1 is a federal holiday. This benefit will already include the COLA increase.

All Social Security payments will increase by 2.5% starting in 2025 due to the Cost of Living Adjustment, a mechanism used to match payments with current inflation and avoid the loss of purchasing power for beneficiaries.

To determine how much money you will receive with the COLA increase, simply add 2.5% to your current benefit. The increase will be given automatically starting in January.
