Meanwhile, over on the West Coast, California is bracing for another turbulent weather pattern that is expected to bring some areas to monthly records this week.
Wednesday will see the first in a series of wet weather systems, with precipitation of up to a half inch in Northern California. More powerful storm systems are expected to come to the state over the weekend.
National Weather Service removes alerts for areas battered by nor'easter
The National Weather Service has removed weather alerts for states that were affected by yesterday’s snow storm.
There are currently no active watches, warnings, or advisories for Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, or West Virginia.
Clear the path to fire hydrants
The New York City government has already asked residents to shovel their sidewalks to help city efforts to clear the streets.
Now the Fire Department is also urging New Yorkers to clear paths to fire hydrants so that any fire-fighting emergencies can be responded to in a more effective manner.
A powerful storm dumped inches of snow on New York City through parts of New England, and brought with it winds of up to 60 miles per hour. The fast-moving storm left some areas in New Jersey with more than 15 inches of snow.
More than a thousand flights were cancelled or delayed, while many schools cancelled classes or moved them online during the height of the storm.
Most schools will be holding classes on Feb. 14, although some will delay their school opening by a few hours.
NYC hit by first major snow storm in two years
The fast-moving winter storm swept through New York, with 3.2 inches of snow reported in Central Park. This is more than all the snowfall recorded in 2023. It was Central Park’s snowiest day since a storm dumped 8.5 inches of snow in 2022.
The New York City government is asking residents to stay off the roads if they don’t need to travel, to keep safe and to help snow plows do their jobs.

New York City saw snow accumulations between three to eight inches, but Boston only got about an inch of snow by midday yesterday.
Storm dumps more than a foot of snow on Northeast
A powerful, fast-moving winter storm dumped more than a foot of snow on parts of New England on Tuesday after it brought New York City its first significant snowfall in at least two years.
Some 13 million people from New York City north into southern New England remained under a winter storm warning until 7 p.m. local time as the Nor'easter pummeled the region with heavy, wet snow and winds of up to 60 miles per hour, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.
As of midday, the storm had left numerous spots with more than a foot of snow, including Farmington, Connecticut, and Sussex, New Jersey, where snow accumulations totaled more than 15 inches, according to the NWS.
