Woman delivers bold message to people thinking about cloning their pets: “It can be a really big life adjustment and disruptor”

A TikToker cautions those who are thinking about cloning their dog after they have passed away. “You’re not getting your dog back,” she warns.

Update:

Modern science has given dog owners a chance to give their pets a second chance at life through the process of cloning. Tom Brady had his pit bull mix Lua cloned, something that his friend and former teammate Gronk said he would never do with his Frenchie Ralphine.

Gronk’s reasoning is that the process “replicates the same exact look, but the personality is not the same.” There is another reason why dog owners should take a moment to thoroughly think through the decision to clone their beloved pet according to Vanessa Johnson which she shared in a TikTok post.

“It can be a really big life adjustment and disruptor”

Vanessa had her Shih Tzu Oliver cloned after he passed away in 2024. Vanessa explains that she made the extraordinary decision in a state of grief and admitted that she was naïve about expecting the clone to be the same “calm, lazy, well-trained dog” Oliver had been. Instead, she got an eight-week-old puppy she named Ollie that was full of boundless energy.

Vanessa had adopted Oliver from a family when he was six years old, so she never had the experience of raising a puppy. She has documented her “powerful journey of reflection” in an online blog as well as through TikTok videos.

In a recent video she explained that people have asked her if it would be a good idea for them to clone their dog. In the case of one elderly woman Vanessa said it wouldn’t be a good idea because “you’re not getting your dog back where they were in their life stage when they left you. You’re getting a brand new, energetic puppy.”

“You need to think about where you’re at in life,” she advised, recommending that people thinking about cloning their pet, before going forward with the decision, ask themselves: “Are you physically ready and able to take care of a puppy?”

She cautions that “it’s a lot of work.” Additionally, “it can be a really big life adjustment and life adjuster,” she says.

“Just want to point out the obvious thing. If you are thinking about cloning your dog, you’re getting a puppy and it’s no joke,” she concluded.
