The God of War series will be “incredibly true to the source material,” according to Amazon Studios

One of the biggest surprises during this jam-packed last stretch of the year has been the announcement of another video game adaptation, this time based on God of War. Led by Amazon Studios for a release on PRime Video, the adaptation is taking one of the largest franchises of the industry and transforming it into an audiovisual spectacle. After the very recent announcement, Chief of Television on Amazon Vernon Sanders has assured the public through an interview with Collider that the series will stay “incredibly true” to the game.

“If you’ve never played the game, you will fall in love with the show”

The God of War series is looking to be everything that fans of the games expect. As Sanders puts it, “At the center of it all is this story of fathers and sons, and families, set against this giant epic landscape. So what Rafe [Judkins] (showrunner) and Mark [Fergus] and Hawk [Ostby] (writers) have come up with for the first season, and for the series, I think, is both incredibly true to the source material, and also compelling on its own. If you never played the game, you will fall in love with the show and feel very much invited in. So we think it's going to be huge." For those of you who are unaware, Fergus and Otsby were the creators of The Expanse.

As of now there has been no announcements about the main cast for the series, so we still don’t know who’s going to give life to Kratos and Atreus, let alone the myriad of characters that they’ll encounter through their journey. We can’t wait to figure out who’s playing Mimir, and whether or not they’ll spend the entire show strapped to Kratos’ belt. Of course, we’re only expecting these characters due to Amazon itself using the cover of God of War 2018, the soft reboot of the series, as the promotional image for announcing this live-action adaptation.
