Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Reportedly gets delayed after live-service fan backlash

It seems like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been delayed once again after its live-service design was revealed during the latest State of Play.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Reportedly gets delayed after live-service fan backlash

It appears as if Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League might have been delayed from its May 26, 2023 release date to an unspecified date later in the year, according to a report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier.

As was reported, this decision comes from publisher Warner Bros. Games, who chose to delay the title by months once again after an enormous wave of backlash from fans, upset about the live-service game elements that are included in the game. All of these were revealed in a 15-minute presentation inside the latest PlayStation “State of Play” showcase, and at the time they received quite the negative response from viewers around the world.

There’s still no confirmation of this delay by official representatives of WB Games or Rocksteady Studios, who are developing the title. There’s also no certainty that this possible delay is in reaction to the criticism the game received after revealing its gameplay loop and mechanics, but it’s undeniable that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League didn’t exactly click with fans of the studio’s previous titles (the Arkham trilogy).

Suicide Squad: another live-service superhero game to grind on

In what has become a serious concern for fans of superheroes and video games, there’s been a trend lately of the fusion of both topics resulting in live-service games that fail to meet expectations for both publishers and fans. Neither successful in sales or able to fulfill their promises to players, titles like Marvel’s Avengers and Gotham Knights tempt players with popular characters only to deliver short, weak story campaigns that open up to multiplayer co-op grinding of missions and loot collection.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League seems to be heading in this direction: not only will you be required to be connected to the internet at all times, but the single-player mode appears to be the multiplayer component with AI bots in the place of other players. Taking into account that what was shown during its gameplay reveal came with slowdowns and repetitive gameplay, the title could be in trouble even before its release.

We’ll have to wait and see until WB Games or Rocksteady confirm or deny this delay.
