10 years later, a never-before-seen trick is discovered in Rocket League
A player discovered an aerial trick that could revolutionize wall moves in Rocket League.
Despite being close to a decade old, Rocket League continues to surprise. Its premise — a combination of cars and soccer — is deceptively simple, making it accessible to any player. However, mastering its physics-based mechanics requires thousands of hours of practice. Over time, the community has developed increasingly complex techniques, including aerial flights, wall bounces, and impossible stunts. This constant evolution keeps the competitive scene fresh and unpredictable.
A new aerial maneuver in Rocket League challenges control limits
Recently, Reddit user and YouTuber sly3x demonstrated a new maneuver that could add an interesting variant to the metagame. In a clip he shared on the Rocket League subreddit, sly3x showed a trick consisting of an aerial chase that takes advantage of the stadium walls. After hitting the ball and going up the wall, the player performs a diagonal backflip to propel himself back toward the wall. This allows them to hit the ball a second or even a third time without touching the ground. Sly3x jokingly commented that this could change the competitive scene “forever.”
As is often the case with discoveries in dedicated communities, the reactions were swift. Some users debated whether this was truly a new mechanic, arguing that similar maneuvers had been seen before, albeit less controlled or chained. Others mentioned having witnessed similar behavior either accidentally or as part of the play style of highly experienced users. Some questioned its viability in real matches, pointing out that it requires perfect coordination and that less experienced teammates might not anticipate the play, resulting in a wasted scoring opportunity or ceding possession to the opponent.
