2024 Pokémon World Championships: Visit to the TCG Gallery

The Pokémon World Championships became an event that was not only a great competition, but also a space that provided an opportunity to integrate the Pokémon fan community. As part of the activities inside the convention center, there were spaces that sought to connect with those viewers who were looking for something more than what was presented on the competition floor.

Just as we visited the event’s history museum, we also got to see the Pokémon Trading Card Game Illustration Art Gallery, which featured the finalists of this year’s Illustration Contest.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game has had a series of contests since 2019, starting in Japan with the 2019 Pokémon Trading Card Game Illustration Grand Prix. This contest grew in 2021 and opened its doors to people from the United States. This year, entries were accepted from Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. This year’s theme was “Magical Pokémon Moments,” where the main pocket monsters we found were Pikachu, Melmetal, Flygon, Charizard, Absol, Eevee, Feraligatr and Bidoof.

In addition to the illustrations, there is also an open area for fans of all ages to create their own TCG cards. Each sheet has a specific Pokémon to illustrate and the opportunity to be placed on a wall for participants to display their art.
