2025 will bring with it a new HDMI cable capable of 10K and 240Hz
The next generation of HDMI cables is coming soon, with much higher capabilities than the current HDMI 2.1.
Although we are almost there to say goodbye to 2024, many people are already thinking about the big event that will take place next month in Las Vegas. On January 6th the CES 2025, the new edition of the largest technology fair in the world, the long-awaited HDMI 2.2 is expected to be presented for the first time. The world of televisions is about to change forever.
According to reports by AVPasion, rumors indicate that HDMI 2.2 will mainly focus on offering improvements in the field of gaming. It is expected that the new cables will allow reaching resolutions up to 10K or even 12K, in addition to impressive 240Hz refresh rates. In this way, the capabilities of the latest revisions of HDMI 2.1 would be far exceeded, which allows reaching 10K but sacrificing part of the refresh rate. In addition, there is speculation about a possible redesign of conventional HDMI that makes use of connectors USB-C.
DisplayPort 2.1, the great rival of the imminent HDMI 2.2
Even though HDMI 2.1 already offers high bandwidth (48 Gbps) and resolution of up to 10K, there are sources that indicate that the new HDMI 2.2 models will greatly exceed these specifications. In this way would directly compete with DisplayPort 2.1, a connector that currently offers the highest bandwidth on the market (80Gbps in its most powerful version). Besides, this last device reaches 16K (with limitations, of course) and gives the option to configure two screens at 4K and 144Hz. It will be interesting to see if HDMI 2.2 can surpass these impressive numbers.
