A former developer gives new clues about the release of GTA 6: “They’re confident”
One of the most important figures in Rockstar’s history is betting on May 26.

Nowadays, there are many people who make a living, or earn extra money, talking about video games in a wide variety of formats. And of course, many want the highest figures, so they always go for the biggest and most eye-catching names, which focuses a lot of attention on GTA 6, set to be one of the most important releases of the last decade, if not the most important. And since there aren’t any new trailers or information, there isn’t much to talk about, so some people try to pull topics out of thin air, such as pointing to new delays based on rumors and supposedly “inside” information.
May 26 seems like the final date, barring any last-minute disasters
However, those who know best, based on their knowledge and experience, consider May 26 to be a fairly safe bet. They have confidence in the parent company, Take Two, and someone who has been instrumental in making GTA the saga it has become also has confidence in that date: Obbe Vermeji, the historic technical director of the PS2 releases, when the saga became a global phenomenon. The developer, now happily independent after going through the GTA 4 meat grinder, is betting that there will be no more delays, claiming that those who say otherwise are just trying to get attention.
Rockstar had a free choice and picked May 26. They're confident.

They'll make the final call ~5 months out.
Any “GTA6 delayed” rumour before December is clout-chasing.
“Rockstar had a free choice and picked May 26. They’re confident. They’ll make the final call ~5 months out. Any ‘GTA6 delayed’ rumour before December is clout-chasing.”, says the veteran programmer.
Obbe is arguably one of the best sources for learning more about the history of GTA and Rockstar during their meteoric rise to become one of the biggest franchises in video games. He answers many questions and curiosities about the development of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas (as long as he knows the answer or has some educated guess). He also makes it clear that he left Rockstar after GTA 4 and knows little or nothing about the inner workings of his former studio today, although he often gives educated opinions on certain topics related to them.
