‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ and the important theory about Ser Duncan the Tall that the series showrunner denies
One scene seemed to confirm an old theory about the protagonist, but the series creator clarifies that this was not the intention.

The latest spin-off from the Game of Thrones universe has proven to be a hit for HBO. After a slow start, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has grown in popularity and conversation among fans, to the point of reigniting theories that have been circulating for years about its protagonist. The first season seemed to reinforce one of the most debated: the possibility that Ser Duncan the Tall—Dunk—had never been officially knighted. However, showrunner Ira Parker has denied this interpretation in an interview with Collider.
The theory resurfaced following a flashback in which Dunk asks the dying Ser Arlan of Pennytree why he never knighted him. The scene ends with Arlan’s death before he can give a clear answer, which many interpreted as an implicit confirmation that the knighting never took place.

A character who has won over the entire audience
“At that moment, Dunk had never been knighted by Ser Arlan. He says, ‘Why did you never knight me?’ And then, Ser Arlan dies, and we think it’s over. But then, he’s back and, as far as we know, the continuation of that scene is, ‘Boy, go get me my sword,’ and then he knights him. There is no confirmation, one way or the other, coming out of that scene. That’s exactly how Mr. R.R. Martin requested it. It remains [ambiguous] and people can decide for themselves,” Ira Paker points out in the interview.

Beyond the formal debate, the character has won over audiences precisely because he embodies the ideals that define a knight in Westeros: honor, loyalty, and a sense of duty. Regardless of the legitimacy of his title, Dunk represents the spirit of chivalry in a world where those values rarely survive intact.
