A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms revisits an idea from a canceled Game of Thrones spin-off in its fifth episode
An episode that leaves us with moments reminiscent of what could have been a canceled spin-off.

‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ has established itself as both a critical and commercial success. The Game of Thrones spin-off has managed to connect with audiences since its first episodes, confirming that HBO has once again hit the mark with a new adaptation of the universe created by George R. R. Martin. Its fifth episode, titled 'In the Name of the Mother,' achieved a rating of 9.8 out of 10 on IMDb with more than 56,000 votes, although one of its greatest successes goes beyond the numbers: a clear nod to a spin-off that was canceled in 2021.
The series in question was to be set in Flea Bottom, the poorest neighborhood in King’s Landing. The project never came to fruition, and HBO chose to prioritize other productions. However, the fifth episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms revisits this idea by devoting a large part of its runtime to the past, showing a young Dunk walking the streets of Flea Bottom with his friend Rafe.
A series that keeps growing with each episode
This episode offers the most intimate and human portrayal seen so far of the lives of the inhabitants of this area of King’s Landing in a television production from the Game of Thrones universe. Far from palaces and grand intrigues, the series focuses on a rawer, dirtier, and darker version of the most iconic city in the saga.

It’s a different take, one that had already sparked interest as a possible spin-off and now finds its place within A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The episode not only works as an exercise in nostalgia or worldbuilding, but also as a clear demonstration of the narrative potential that still exists in the lesser-explored corners of this universe.
