A live-action film adaptation of The Jetsons is in development, and Jim Carrey is in talks to star in it

Director Colin Trevorrow leads Warner Bros.’ new adaptation.

Update:

The future has caught up with us, and once again, the classic cartoon 'The Jetsons’ is being developed into a live-action version. This time around, Jim Carrey is in negotiations to star in this new installment.

According to information from The Wrap, this live-action version of The Jetsons will be directed by Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) for Warner Bros. Pictures. According to the media outlet, both Trevorrow and Joe Epstein are in negotiations to write the script.

Bringing Orbit City to the big screen

The Jetsons, which originally aired for a single season in 1962-63 before being revived in the 1980s, is considered the sci-fi counterpart to another Hanna-Barbera hit, The Flintstones. The show painted a witty, optimistic picture of the future in Orbit City, where flying cars, moving sidewalks, and robots like the sarcastic maid Rosie were part of everyday life.

If the deal is finalized, Carrey will step into the role of George Jetson, an average employee at Spacely’s Space Sprockets who lives with his wife Jane, children Judy and Elroy, and their dog Astro. Hollywood has attempted to adapt The Jetsons into a live-action feature since the 1980s, with various studios and high-profile talents attached at different points. This long list includes directors such as Rob Minkoff, Adam Shankman, and Robert Rodriguez, as well as Back to the Future director Robert Zemeckis, who was once attached to an unproduced TV sitcom version in 2017. The last time the family graced the big screen was in the 1990 animated film, Jetsons: The Movie.
