A Minecraft server powered by AI evolved its own government, culture, and economy

An entire pseudo-civilization has evolved inside an AI-powered Minecraft server, with it having elections, religions, and even trade.

The Minecraft universe has always been an environment where players used to give free rein to their imagination, but this time the building and crafting game has been raised to another level. The reason comes from StarUp Altera, which wanted to carry out an innovative experiment that combines artificial intelligence and virtual reality, the result of which has been the creation of a self-sufficient civilization within the game.

The scientists behind the project created more than 1,000 AI agents, each of them designed to act in a different way and with behaviors typical of humans. The characters have different objectives and have even achieved such advances that they are capable of creating their own society, organizing an economy, and carrying out electoral processes. These “digital humans” have done so much with the freedom given to them, that it showcases the tremendous potential of Artificial Intelligence.

The main events of this new server are being published in the Altera.al Instagram account, where they’ve already gathered over 25,000 followers in just over four months. In 2011, Markus Persson created Minecraft, an open-world video game that allowed you to create anything you wanted, but without a doubt now, after this project, the barriers of what it set out to do have opened up to a much broader universe.
