CD Projekt Red has revealed new details about the story of The Witcher 4 in a recent behind-the-scenes video, highlighting the role of Ciri and the narrative approach the game will take. According to the developers, the story will feature a branching structure in which players will face difficult moral choices.

Philipp Weber, narrative director, emphasized that the game will not present situations with easy answers. “We’re not going to give you a black or white situation,” he explained. “We expect you to consider some situations, make some tough choices.” He also suggested that players will find themselves at a crucial point after the events of the trailer, where they will be forced to make a weighty decision.

Expectations for The Witcher 4 are high, especially considering the legacy of its predecessor, The Witcher 3, which is considered one of the greatest games of all time. And although it seems like yesterday, the truth is that we are on the verge of its tenth anniversary (it will be next May), a perfect time to remember how special it was and hope that its sequel will be even more so.

In the video, Weber also emphasized that Ciri’s story in The Witcher 4 is based on the narrative essence of Andrzej Sapkowski’s books. Tomek Suwalski, director of an animation studio involved in the project, emphasized the Polish author’s influence on the game’s world-building. “Sapkowski has a very special way of telling stories, and we want to reflect that in the way we present the player’s choices,” Suwalski said.

The cinematic trailer for The Witcher 4, in which you can see Ciri as a witcher accepting contracts and facing difficult quests, hints at the direction the story will take. However, specific details are still being kept under wraps, and the game’s release date remains unconfirmed.

In addition to the storyline, the video also covers other technical aspects of the game, including the creation of the trailer using Unreal Engine 5 and the use of concept art to shape the game’s vision. With production underway, players can expect an immersive experience where every decision will have a significant impact on the unfolding story.
