Accio Cast! Here is the first look at the actors who will play Harry Potter’s golden trio on HBO
A new generation of actors will grow up before us.
The Harry Potter series on HBO is making a significant advancement by introducing a cast that will bring the main characters to life. After a great search among more than 30,000 young actors, they have found those who will give life to Harry Potter, Ron Wesley, and Hermione Granger.
Through a press release, it has been announced that Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton is Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout is the new Ron Weasley. All three actors are newcomers.
“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron,” showrunner and executive producer Francesca Gardiner and executive producer and director (of multiple episodes) Mark Mylod said in a joint statement. “The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”
The cast continues to grow
The three young actors join the already long list of actors selected to play the faculty and staff of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A few months ago it had already been confirmed that the following roles would be cast:
- John Lithgow (‘Conclave,’ ‘The Crown’) as Albus Dumbledore,
- Janet McTeer (‘Tumbleweeds,’ ‘The White Queen’) as Minerva McGonagall,
- Paapa Essiedu (‘I May Destroy You,’ ‘Gangs of London’) as Severus Snape
- Nick Frost (‘Shaun of the Dead,’ ‘Hot Fuzz’) as Rubeus Hagrid.
- Luke Thallon (Tom Stoppard’s ‘Leopoldstadt,’ Rupert Goold’s ‘Patriots’) as Quirinus Quirrell
- Paul Whitehouse (‘The Fast Show,’ ‘Harry & Paul’) as Argus Filch
For now, the Harry Potter series is expected to have a total of 7 seasons, adapting one book each. Although there is no premiere date, filming will begin this summer.
