After ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, Marvel Studios has become “obsessed” about Chaning Tatum’s Gambit
After missing out on his own movie, Channing Tatum’s Gambit has managed to make quite the impact in Marvel Studios thanks to his role in the latest Deadpool film.
Although ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ was not the endless carousel of cameos and references that many expected, it did have a good handful of special appearances, and what very few imagined was that Channing Tatum would steal the show. Remy Lebeau, Gambit, joins X-23, Elektra, Blade, and the two protagonists of the film to face off against Cassandra Nova, and the mutant played by Tatum becomes one of the biggest surprises of the film in his own right, making fans get out of their seats. This has not gone unnoticed by Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, and company.
This was assured by none other than Ryan Reynolds, which confirms that the company has taken good note of the success of Tatum’s cameo and that it could make his future in the MCU go further than expected.
“I honestly don’t know what happens in meetings behind closed doors that are held at Marvel, but I know they are obsessed with him in that role” Reynolds said. “It is a situation similar to what I went through. Once you show it works, it’s really what they need. They just need to see you in action, and Channing is very unique in the way he plays that character., but he is also very handsome physically, and the way he moves and walks.”
What happened to the Gambit movie?
There hasn’t been much conversation, but there was a time when FOX was convinced of making a movie starring Lebeau, which would end up canceled. According to Tatum himself last year, this was scrapped after the purchase of Disney, who canceled the project during the transition. Tatum then stated “I haven’t been able to see any of the movies. I loved that character and it was too sad. It was like losing a friend”, making it clear that his time at Marvel had passed.
However, happily, we were able to see just a year later that there would be a new opportunity for this character and this actor that everything points to, if we stick to what Reynolds says, that he still has a lot to say in the MCU.
‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ premieres on Disney+ on November 12.
