After ‘Endgame’, three heroes were supposed to lead the MCU before the plan failed because of this

Marvel Studios had a plan for the next phases of the MCU after ‘Avengers: Endgame’, but these three characters never got their chance to lead. Here’s the reason why.

Update:

After reaching the climax of the MCU with ‘Avengers Endgame’ and its amazing crossover with all of the characters together in the same battle, Marvel Studios suffered a drop in audience and perceived quality by many of its followers, with new characters and stories that have not managed to fully engage the masses; or at least not like before. Now, with the release of the book ‘MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios’, we’ve learned new details of the internal functioning of the company led by Kevin Feige, among them the failed plan that they had prepared to replace Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor through three characters who were made to lead the MCU.

Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel

Marvel Studios had intended for Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel to take the reins of the MCU after the departure of the classic trinity formed by Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor; But the plan did not end up coming together due to three key factors. The first of them came with Marvel’s confrontation with Sony over the Spider-Man rights after ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, which caused uncertainty about the future of the character played by Tom Holland as part or not of the UCM.

The second and hardest blow was the death of actor Chadwick Boseman in August 2020, something entirely unexpected which caused the absence of the character in the MCU and to whom tribute was paid in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, with Shuri (Letitia Wright) picking up the mantle of Black Panther. Finally, Brie Larson would have lost a lot of interest in continuing to play Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers due to the harassment campaigns against her and the controversies generated around it.

Now, Marvel Studios may already be thinking of a more than probable reboot of the MCU after ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ with the return of key figures from the past and a more than likely recasting of some of its iconic characters, all this to have - now - all of its most popular characters together. Although we will still have to wait several years until this happens.
