Ahsoka Season 2 officially delayed, ending Disney Plus’ yearly Star Wars run
Rosario Dawson teased bigger battles and higher stakes while confirming the delayed premiere window.
Ahsoka’s return to live-action will have to wait a bit longer, as—just over three years later—a new release window for the second season of the series on Disney+ has been announced, according to details revealed during this afternoon’s Disney Upfront presentation.
Rosario Dawson herself, who plays Ahsoka in the live-action series, announced that the second season will arrive in early 2027. “I can tell you this season, the battles are bigger and the stakes are higher,” Dawson noted. “We can’t wait for you to see it.” Along with her announcement, a sizzle reel and behind-the-scenes footage were presented to the media in attendance.
Narrative direction and cast updates
The previous finale left Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren stranded on Peridea, a distant extragalactic world, while Grand Admiral Thrawn returned to the main galaxy—reintroducing a long-standing threat to the New Republic.
In terms of casting, Hayden Christensen is confirmed to return as Anakin Skywalker, extending the mentor-student relationship that played a significant role in Season 1. The production has also clarified how it will move forward following the death of Ray Stevenson, who portrayed Baylan Skoll. The role will be recast, with Rory McCann, known for Game of Thrones, stepping into the character.

The release window coincides with the 50th anniversary of Star Wars, an event that Lucasfilm is positioning as a focal point for renewed audience engagement. As part of that planning, 2026 will mark the first year since the launch of Disney+ without a new live-action Star Wars series. This pause suggests a deliberate slowdown, likely giving showrunner Dave Filoni and his team additional time to develop the next chapter within the interconnected “Mandoverse” storyline.
